PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Evolution of the Superbug!

Alyssa McGee

Antibiotic-Resistant Bacterias

  • Staphylococcus aureus
  • Neisseria gonorrohea
  • Enterococcus
  • Mycobacterium tuberculosis

Cause:
Antibiotics were used often enough that the bacteria mutated, and were no longer affected.

Prevention of Bacterial Evolution

  • Don't use antibiotics to treat viruses
  • Avoid spread out mild doses of antibiotics
  • Take all of your prescribed pills
  • Use a drug combo to treat bacterial infection
  • Reduce use of antibiotics on livestock/crops

Reasons the 'superbug' is so common in hospitals:
The patients' immune systems are already compromised.
Healthy people touch sick people, and sick people touch things that healthy people later touch.
