PRESENTATION OUTLINE

EXCRETORY SYSTEMđź’©

SKIN

  • The skin is an organ and part of
  • excretory process because it secretes sweat
  • which is a waste product.

KIDNEYS

  • The kidneys are organs that are a part of the excretory process.
  • They filter the blood and remove nitrogenous wastes and other harmful things.
  • They filter urea from the blood which leaves the body as urine.

LUNGS

  • The lungs are organs that are a part of the excretory process.
  • They use respiration to remove gaseous wastes from the body.

LIVER

  • The liver detoxifies the body by removing bacteria, hormones and drugs.
  • It then turns them into harmless waste. The waste leaves the body as feces.
  • The liver produces bile which the body uses to break down fat.

KIDNEY PARTS

  • The indentation on the concave side of the kidney, known as the renal hilus,
  • provides a space for the renal artery, renal vein, and ureter to
  • enter the kidney.

NEPHRONS FUNCTION

  • Each kidney contains around 1 million individual nephrons, the kidneys’
  • microscopic functional units that filter blood to produce urine.
  • The nephron is made of 2 main parts: the renal corpuscle and the renal
  • tubule.
  • Responsible for filtering the blood

FILTRATION

  • The first step in the formation of urine is filtration.
  • This is taking place in the renal capsule.
  • This filtration takes places under pressure.
  • Blood enters the glomerulus at high pressure direct from the heart.

REABSORBTION

  • This process takes place as the filtrate passes through various sections of nephrons.
  • Some areas are specifically adapted to reabsorb certain elements only.
