STARTED

RISKS

  • Many drivers either crash or injured

AVG SALARY

  • Salaries, in pounds, can go from
  • €22 million per year
  • All the way down to €150,000 per year
  • You probably will not start out with this salary in your career, as you will not be considered "professional" yet.

WHY WOULD I LIKE TO BE A DRIVER?

  • I love cars and racing
  • Nice large salary
  • One of the things I've always wanted to do
  • Insanely fun

STEPS TO BECOMING A DRIVER

KARTING

  • Most drivers begin this way
  • Teaches the basics of euro-style F1 racing
  • Fun, yet expensive to own a kart.
  • Yes, "Kart" is spelled with a K.

TOURING CAR

  • Not quite F1, but very close
  • Large salary
  • You may decide not to go on to F1, but stay at this step
  • Nice cars
  • Still helps building up to F1 because you are racing with lower-class car teams
  • Not really "lower-class", but less than F1

PACING AND/OR PITTING

  • Once again, it benefits more experience
  • You get to be on the track with F1 cars and learn more about them, see them up close, and feel their power

PACING AND/OR PITTING (CONT.)

  • Pitting
  • Being a pit crew member requires expertise about the car you are pitting.
  • For example, a Mclaren-Mercedes MP4-29. If you were pitting this car, you would need to know the rate that it's tires take wear on (compared to how fast the car is going) to know when to replace the tires.
  • Also, you would need to know the cars weight, top speed, fuel capacity, etc.
  • This job offers a ton of experience in the F1 field which is required if you want to become a driver.
  • It also allows you to get a feel for the car.
  • Image: This is a crew pitting a Ferrari F 14 T
  • You also need to be extremely quick at your job so the driver can get those new tires you just put on onto the track.

DRIVING

  • When you finally become a driver, you should be a very experienced one. That is the reason for the high salary and trust factor. The company you race for trusts that you will take care of the car and race well.
  • If you follow these steps, it will assure that you will become an amazing F1 driver, be it for Mclaren-Mercedes, Lotus, Ferarri, Marussia, or any other company.

HOURS

  • No set hours for racing
  • Some days, it is all day racing
  • While other days, you have the day off.
  • It is a very demanding job

ALL IN ALL:

  • Being an F1 driver is a very demanding, hard to come by career.
  • It is very rewarding, both financially and mentally (for me at least).
  • It is a job that I would love to have

Side note:
You might ask why I keep using this car in different pictures. The reason being is that it is my favorite car.
For those wondering, it is a Mclaren-Mercedes MP4-29 and it is the car I hope to end up driving someday.
Thanks!

THE END

HAPPY RACING!
