  • USED BY FIELD REPORTERS AFTER THEY HAVE FINISHED GIVING THEIR REPORT. GENERALLY VERY SHORT IN TERMS OF SECONDS.

Examples of Documentaries

  • Louis Theroux-"UFOs" 22 January This episode follows several people who believe in UFOs. One of these is a man called Thor Templar, the self-titled "Lord Commander of the Earth Protectorate". He claims to have killed more than twenty aliens.

Examples of documentaries

  • Our War- Series marking the ten-year anniversary of the war in Afghanistan, telling the story of the conflict through the words and pictures of the young soldiers themselves.
  • This was hosted by Shaun Dooley.

  • Documentaries have different formats, includung:- expository, observational, interactive, reflexive performative; realism; dramatisation; and narrativisation

  • examples of conventions include :-Studio news readers; field reporters; links to studio; mode of address to viewer; interviewing; experts and witnesses; report structure; actuality footage

Audience Response

  • A voiceover will be added to a documentary to make the audience think in a certain way.
  • In documentaries, most of the time the Kuleshov effect is used. This uses two shots that create a third meaning.
