According to the medical dictionary a fad diet is a nutritional regimen, generally of an extreme nature, intended to produce results more quickly than a traditional diet-exercise combination; often of a dubious nature.
History of Fad Diets: Fad diets have been around for centuries to date. Beginning all the way back in 1820, when Lord Byron popularized the Vinegar and Water Diet, which included drinking water mixed with apple cider vinegar. Close to 100 years later in e1925 an interesting diet emerged that capitalized on nicotine appetite suppression. People went to drastic measures to reach their "goal weight." For example, a woman by the name of Maria Callas is known to have ingested a tapeworm losing up to 65 pounds.
