WHAT IS FAIR USE?

  • Fair use permits someone to use a copyright work without permission of the author
  • This is enforced by the copyright laws of the United States

WHEN DO YOU USE IT?

  • You must follow fair use at all times
  • This means you ARE permitted to use media without permission if it is not copyrighted
  • If you are unsure of its copyright status then do not use it

HOW DO YOU USE IT?

  • If you want to use copyrighted work, you must contact the author for permission
  • Otherwise, you must use uncopyrighted work and cite it

WHY DO YOU USE IT?

  • You use the laws of fair use because it is important that the work of others is used with permission as it is not your own.
