Allergy big bad monster is anaphylaxis
The good news is this doesn't happen very often.

Anaphylaxis Effects all areas of the body

Skin-Hives
Airway-Breathing difficulty-tightness in chest or throat, wheezing, cough
Brain-Uneasiness, headache
Heart-Chest pain, fast hear rate, dizzy, fainting
Abdomen-Nausea, cramping, vomiting diarrhea

What to do?
Stay calm
Call the Well Shell #205, radio channel 4
Ask if they have an epipen
Use the epipen if breathing is compromised

Demo epipen

Simple things
Don't sit on the grass, sit on a towel or blanket if you have the kids sitting on the grass

Smelling and picking flowers probably not a great idea either

Please no perfume or after shave this weekend

Don't give any of the children anything to eat or drink with out checking with the parents first

REMEMBER

LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE

EPILEPSY

SEIZURE FIRST AID
This is a little girl having an EEG-which is how we diagnose seizures.
Each child is different. Some kids have seizure that look pretty much the same every time, Otis have all sorts of seizures and they all look a little different

What do you do if you think someone is having a seizure? Ask the parent/caregiver- or bring the it to their attention. Some kids may have tics that could be confused with seizures...so ask

Stay calm
Be sure the camper is safe-do not try to restrain
Call the Well Shell-#205 or radio channel 4
Loosen tight clothing
Cushion head
Turn on side
Keep airway clear-don't stick anything in the mouth

There is really no such thing as a sick child; there are children who happen to be sick. Think about it and you will understand the magic of camp.

ASTHMA

HARD TO EXHALE
What to do is someone is having trouble breathing? Coughing, wheezing, breathing problems, tight chest?

Stay calm-reassure them help is on the way
Have someone radio or call the Well Shell. #205 or radio channel 4

Have the person sit up-easier to breath sitting up-maybe even lean forward, what ever is most comfortable for them....away from what ever set off the attack...if known

Do they have a rescue inhaler? Have the camper use the inhaler 2puffs or as per the instructions on the package

Stay calm
