VIOLETA PARRA
Violeta was born October 4,1917, in San Carlos, Chile.
Parra was married twice, once to Luis Cereceda, and the other, Luis Arce.
She had four children.(Ángel Parra, Isabel Parra, Carmen Luisa Arce, Rosa Clara Arce)

Her parents names are Clarisa Sandoval Navarrete and Nicanor Parra Alarcón.
She had three brothers. (Nicanor Parra, Roberto Parra Sandoval, and Lalo Parra)
She has two sisters.(Hilda Parra and Olga Parra)

VIOLETAS EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
She attended a normal school.
She enrolled into school, but didn't last long due to material and health related difficulties.
After her fathers death she started traveling with her brother.

Violeta is a famous artist of Chilean folk art.
She brought Chilean folk art to the next level.
She became famous in Chile, she traveled the countryside and collect poems and folk songs.
She got famous by staying in touch with famous and important artists, then she finally had it in her to write her first play.

She was deceased and has been since February 5, 1967.
She had a crisis with loneliness and problems with her lover, after a failing attempt of trying to commit suicide, she then killed herself.
Just before her death she composed one of her most famous songs -- "Gracias a la Vida" (Thanks to Life)

Her father was a music teacher, and her mother worked on the farm.
Parra was born to a large, poor family.

After her father died, Violeta and her siblings had to work to help feed the family.
She lived with relatives while she was in school, but later moved back with her mother and siblings.

Violetas whole name is Violeta del Carmen Parra Sandoval.
She starting writing songs at a young age, performing in bars, small ballrooms, and circuses.
Her music became popular when she traveled through the Soviet Union and Europe.

She was awarded what was referred to as the "Chilean Oscar" in 1954".
Violeta also could write good poems.
Her mother had a restaurant in Barrancas.

THE MOVIE
After Violetas death a movie was made on her called "Violeta went to heaven."
The movie got awarded the World Cinema Jury Prize.
The movie was about Violetas road to be considered one of Chile's greatest folklorists and artists.
