NORMAL-LIKE REALITY

  • Creation of world is shown (not far from being a reality) #sci-fi
  • Lord of the Rings: seems normal as if it has happened

CREATURES

  • Hunger Games: real creatures however they were created in the fake world
  • Lord of the Rings: unreal creatures; don't exist in the real world but exist in made-up world

LIVING ENVIRONMENT

  • Lord of the Rings: in harmony with nature and their surroundings (peaceful and calm).
  • Hunger Games: industrial and harsh; reflects the nature of the movie.
  • Languages: *Elves language is made up. *Katniss tribute sign is universally understood .

PAST VS. FUTURE

  • Lord of the Rings: looks like it has already happened because we hear a lot of folklore growing up and so it is realistic
  • Hunger Games: futuristic because it is not far fetched and it is modern however it looks like it is a mixture of the industrial revolution and Elysium (futuristic movie)

OBJECTIVES IN MOVIES

  • Hunger Games: One survivor. Sacrificing life for a reward.
  • Lord of the Rings: destroy ring because it is evil.

MAKE-UP

  • Lord of the Rings: realistic making seem like it has really happened and the special effects are seen as normal because it is showing diverse cultures.
  • Hunger Games: clown-like and absurd showing fantasy because in reality we wouldn't put such lavish things on.

LIFE LESSONS

  • LOTR: *loyalty is a sign of strength. *temptation leads to mistrust. *selfishness has consequences e.g. Frodo tried to save himself with the ring and ended up close to death.
  • THG: *arrogance will lead to pitfalls and embarrassment. *having faith in what you believe in can lead to lives saved and respect.
