PRESENTATION OUTLINE
THE UNITED FARM WORKERS UNION
CONDITIONS/CAUSES
Because the farm workers were usually immigrants or minorities, they usually worked long hours with bad conditions and low pay. This caused workers to organize together and fight for rights
ACTIONS
The workers took part in boycotts and strikes, like the Grape Boycott where they boycotted grapes and the Hunger Strike where they fought for justice and human dignity
OBSTACLES
One obstacle were the employers who had the power to do anything with the farmers, including firing them. The Agricultural Workers Organizers Commitee was a group who struck the Delano table grape growers
ACHIEVMENTS
The overall achievements were recognition of the boycott and an end to the abusive labor contracting system. California Agricultural Labor Relations Act of 1975 gave workers the right to secret ballot elections and required growers to bargain with unions that won elections
