FAVELA PAINTING PROJECT

BY: RACHELLE KENT

The Favela painting project first started in 2005, in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. The two men responsible for the project are Jeroen Koolhaas, and his friend Dre Urhahn of Haas&Hahn.

Jeroen and Dre targeted the closely knitted houses there for their project, planning to paint all the houses with symmetrical lines of color to create one big canvas.

Not only is the art beautifully placed on the buildings, the project has brought new jobs for the people of Rio who volunteered to help, being paid in the process.

Each line has be perfectly placed along with the other previously painted lines to make it all parallel. Though the lines may be slanted, if you placed a transversal through two of the lines, using any of the parallel lines postulates or theorems, it would prove they were parallel.

Like here for example. I used Theorem 3-7 to prove the lines are parallel.
