PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Fayol's 14 Principles of Management
Fayol believed that specialisation can increase output because employees become increasingly skilled and efficient
Managers need to have authority in order to give orders
Discipline needs to be upheld throughout an organisation
Employees should only have one direct supervisor
A team should have the same objective and work under the same direct manager, using one plan
SUBORDINATION OF INDIVIDUALS INTERESTS TO THE GENERAL INTEREST
The interest of one employee should not be allowed to become more important than those of the group
A workers pay should take into account their cost of living, the supply of qualified personnel, general business conditions and the success of the business
Fayol defined centralisation as lowering the importance if the subordinate role thus allowing employees to be closer to the decision making process
Employees should be aware of where they stand in the organization's hierarchy, or chain of command
The workplace facilities must be clean, tidy and safe for employees with everything in its place
Managers should be fair to staff at all times, both maintaining discipline when necessary and acting with kindness when appropriate
Managers should strive to minimize employee turnover with personnel planning as a priority
Employees should be given the necessary level of freedom to create and carry out plans
Organizations should strive to promote team spirit and unity
