What are the influences of the Federal Period?

Federal-style architecture is the name for the classifying architecture built in North America between c. 1780 and 1830, and particularly from 1785 to 1815. Ancient Greek and Roman influenced design fashionable.

History

The United States had recently gained its independence as a result of the American Revolution and a sense of patriotic pride swept through the young nation. The founding fathers rejected monarchy and embraced democracy they were students of Ancient Greece and Rome.

Who lived in the homes of the Federal Period?

The name Federal style is also used in association with furniture design in the United States of the same time period. The style broadly corresponds to the middle-class of German-speaking lands, Regency style in Britain and to the French Empire style.

Who built the homes of the Federal period?

Despite the long fight for independence, Americans were highly influenced by Robert Adam (1728–1792), Great Britains most popular architect, whose work, in turn, was heavily indebted to ancient Greek and Roman forms.
