Consumerism

Interesting commentary on how schooling may change; Anderson seems to be connecting "school as a business" (TM) with less boredom, and in the process, content. "You don't need to learn these boring things because they aren't useful." Pragmatism in education may cause us to lose content with aesthetic value.

I don't know if it's the vernacular or the "young adult" genre in this book, but something makes it very disagreeable to me. I love the science fiction genre, and I liked the ideas/themes in this story, but I did not care for the story or any of the characters.
