FEEDING THE FIVE THOUSAND

  • The apostles and Jesus attempt to take a trip to rest.
  • People began to follow them when they saw them leaving
  • After the apostles arrived by boat and they saw the others they began to teach
  • The apostles came to Jesus saying that it was getting late
  • The apostles thought that they would need to go and eat

FEEDING THE FIVE THOUSAND (CONT)

  • Jesus instructed them to feed them
  • The apostles brought out the food that they had with them
  • They came back with five loaves and two fish
  • Looking up to heaven Jesus blessed and broke the loaves and fish
  • All ate and were filled with twelves baskets of fish and bread

MEANINGS OF THE 5,000

  • Even though the apostles needed rest, the peoples hunger is the greater need
  • Jesus bringing out the breads reveals that Jesus is powerful
  • He becomes caring and leader when they were followed
  • Become aware of the Lord in the Eucharist
  • Involved: Apostles, Disciples, and Jesus

FEEDING THE FOUR THOUSAND

  • Jesus is with a crowd that has not eaten in three days
  • Didnt want to send the away with no food
  • In the desert they only have seven loaves of bread
  • Jesus blessed the bread and the few fish they had
  • He distrubuted them to his disciples to distribute

FEEDING THE FOUR THOUSAND (CONT)

  • All of the 4,000 people who were there were fed and filled
  • 7 baskets of bread and fish were left over
  • The people were sent away after they ate in a boat

MEANINGS OF THE 4,000

  • People believe this is the second account of Jesus feeding the hungry
  • Others believe it is just a second version of the 5,000
  • Makes it known that Christians are welcome to the Eucharist
  • Eucharist is the place for the community to form
  • Involved: The Apostles, Jesus, and the Disciples

  • Abundance of the Eucharist
  • Splits minimal food among many
  • The food is given to the disciples of Jesus
