FEUDAL JAPAN

The sea surrounding Japan's islands made it easy for people in ships to travel along the coast and from island to island.

The mountains surrounded japan so it was hard for invaders to attack.

Japan developed its own fiercely independent society with its own religion, art, literature, and government.

Because of Japan's mountains, only about 20 percent of its land can be farmed.

JAPANS SOCAIL ORDER

• Shogun- leader of the army
• Daimayo- lords
• Samurai- warriors
• Peasants- farmed
• Merchants- did nothing

Emperor and shogun were the highest rank person. Emperor was the leader of Shinto. Shogun was the leader of the army.
