Cook Coffeehouse

  • The cook coffeehouse is where Lucille and Mattie live, also where they work.

Eliza's Home

  • Not much was revealed about this home, but it is where the servant girl lives, who is a major character.

PHILADELPHIA 1793

  • In Philadelphia during the late 1700's, there was havoc. People became inhumane and were thieves.

Mattie Cook

  • Main character in this novel, also recovers from yellow fever. Is lazy but self reliant and shows a lot of responsibility.

Lucille Cook

  • Mother of Mattie, is strict and owns the Cook Coffeehouse. She retracts the Yellow Fever, and is very sick.

Polly

  • Mattie's friend, died of what is suspected to be Yellow Fever. Worked at the coffeehouse before she died.

Nathaniel Benson

  • Mattie's friend, who she has hinted she wishes to be wed to. Son of the Blacksmith, and was adored by Polly.

GEORGE WASHINIGHTON

  • First present of the United States of America, ex-general of the militia, and was the leader of Mattie's grandfathers squad.

SELF-RELIANCE

  • This book shows self reliance when Mattie has to be more grown up and be independent.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Mattie has made the massive accomplishment of recovering from the Fever, although many have not.

FEMINISM

  • This book is an example of how onto only males can do certain things, such as go out to gather water, run a business, and such.
