  • wanted to avoid a monarchy/ all powerful government
  • wanted to escape the tyranny of England's form of government

HOW IT HAS HELPED

  • each of the five clauses protects our rights
  • right to remain silent

MIRANDA V. ARIZONA

  • legendary case
  • Arizona accused of violating Ernesto Miranda's Fifth and Sixth Amendment rights
  • Ernesto Miranda charged and put in jail for eleven years
  • established the Mirands rights, the right to remain silent
