Simile
When you use like of as to compare two things.
Example: as brave as a lion.

Metaphor
A word or phrase is compared to an object or action that is way different.
Example: life is a roller coaster.

Idiom
A group of words having a meaning that doesn't make sense for those words.
Example: toot your own horn.

Hyperbole
Claims not to be taken literally.
Example: He hit the ball a mile high.

Personification
Something that has human traits.
Example: The thunder rumbled.

Onomatopoeia
A word that makes a sound.
Example: Pop!

Alliteration
When the same letter at the beginning of a word.
Example: Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled pepers.
