History

  • Ice-skating equipment from 3000 BC had been discovered in Sandavia
  • In the 13th and 14th century wooden skates had been introduced.
  • Popularity of figure skating greatly arose in the 19th century
  • This led to the World Figure Skating Championships
  • Metal skates' blades were created in 1865 by Jackson Haines.

The Skater

  • Balance

Jumps

  • Toe jumps are launched by tapping the toe pick on the ice.
  • They take off from left, right, or forward.
  • Flips are jumps that take off from the back side.
  • Axels are spinning jumps that take off from a forward edge.
  • Lutzes take off from a back outside edge.

SKATES

Blades

  • It includes toe picks at the top
  • The two blade type are free skate and dance
  • They start off as 3 parts
  • There are multiple types of toe picks
  • Cost can rise to $500.00

The Take-off

  • jumps can be executed from a standing takeoff
  • can be done both on the ice and in the air
  • jumps should takeoff with speed
  • greater the takeoff speed means better timing
  • effectiveness of takeoff can effect the jump's height

Qualifications

  • Ability to participate in Competitions
  • To compete at senior events you must be 14 by July !st
  • 13-18 years of age at certain events
