Onomatopoeia
The use of words that sound like the noise or name. Words that imitate sounds.
Ex: Buzz, Snap, Pop, Meow.

METAPHOR

  • A comparison of 2 (Or more) unlike things.
  • Doesn't use the words "Like" or "As"
  • Usually uses the words "Is" or "Are"

Simile


A comparison of 2 (Or more) unlike things using the words "Like" or "As"

Idiom


The choice of words and the way they are put together. That is characteristic of a language

Example: Bury the Hatchet

Personification

Personification is when you assign the qualities of a person to something that isn't human or, in some cases, to something that isn't even alive.

Hyperbole
An exaggerated sentence that doesn't really mean what it says
Example: She is as heavy as an elephant!

Alliteration
An alliteration is like a Tongue Twister, repeating letters.
Example: Sally sells sea shells by the sea shore.
