I will be explaining the different simple machines, and I will give some examples of them. I will give some questions for the students to participate in. I will also give a biblical integration to show how simple things like this can be incorporated in life.
A simple machine is any of the basic mechanical devices for applying a force, such as an inclined plane, wedge, or lever, screw, wheel and axle, or pulley.
Wedge: A wedge is a piece of wood, metal, or some other material having one thick end and tapering to a thin edge, that is driven between two objects or parts of an object to secure or separate them.
Pulley: A pulley is a wheel with a grooved rim around which a cord passes. It acts to change the direction of a force applied to the cord and is chiefly used (typically in combination) to raise heavy weights.
Screw: A screw is a short, slender, sharp-pointed metal pin with a raised helical thread running around it and a slotted head, used to join things together by being rotated so that it pierces wood or other material and is held tightly in place.
Inclined Plane: An inclined plane is a plane inclined at an angle to the horizontal. It can be used to reduce lifting force by pushing heavy loads up a ramp.
Wheel and Axle: A wheel and axle is a simple lifting machine consisting of a rope that unwinds from a wheel onto a cylindrical drum or shaft joined to the wheel to provide mechanical advantage.
BIBLICAL INTEGRATION: Psalms 27:1 says "The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be.". This means that we have no need to fear about anything. This is true because of the fact that, when we have God's help, we can overcome any challenge. This relates back to simple machines because the simple machines are a good example of how God helps us. Simple machines reduce the difficulty of things, and God helps us get through hard times.
