• Founder - Prophet named Zoroaster
• started in Iran
• started when Zoroaster had a divine vision while bathing
• was the official language of Cyrus the Great's empire until suppressed by the Spread of Islam

Beliefs/ rituals

• Dualism
• two types- cosmic and moral dualism
• Navjote- intiation cermony for children bewteen ages 7 and 12

Sects

• Traditionalist (Orthodox)- do not believe anyone can convert: must be born into it.
• Modernist - more liberal,believe that people can convert, share same scriptures and rites as Traditionalist

Relevance

• helped to shape major Abrhamic religions-
• Christianity,Judaism and Islam
• influence things in pop culture- Game of thrones and Mazda

Controvery

• strongly oppose homosexuality
• Traditionalist- completely against it
• Modernists- not completely accepting
