Goal settings

  • Long Term-accomplished in more than a year
  • Ex: Becoming a Doctor
  • Short Term- accomplished in a year
  • Ex: Getting a good GPA and passing classes

NEEDS AND WANTS

  • Is a item that is necessary for life
  • Ex: Food, Water, Shelter
  • Is something that is unnecessary to life, but desired
  • Ex: iPhone, PlayStation, and Designer Clothes

S.M.A.R.T Goal

  • Specific- State exactly what is to be done.
  • Measurable- Include how the goal can be measured
  • Attainable- Determine steps to reach the goal
  • Realistic- Do not set goals for something unrealistic
  • Time Bound- State when the goal will be met

Multiple Intelligences

  • Visual- Learns by seeing and observing.
  • Verbal- Listens and responds to the spoken word
  • Interpersonal-  Bonds with parents and interacts with other
  • Interpersonal- Is motivated to identify and pursue goals
  • Musical- Eager to be around and learn from music

Multiple Inteligences

  • Visual- learn better by seeing things they have to do
  • Verbal- Speaks and writes effectively
  • Interpersonal- perceives the feelings, thoughts, and liftstyles of others
  • Intrapersonal-  Works indenpently
  • Musical- Listen and responds with intrest to a variety of sounds 

Learning Styles

  • Auditory- have test questions read to you
  • Visual- Color code things and write down key things
  • Tactile- Tap a pencil, shake your foot, or hold something

Decision Making Example:
you saw your friend stealing some candy out of the store. What do you do?

Stress Management Skills for teens

  • taking deep breaths
  • talking to people you trust about your problems
  • rehearsing and practicing feared situtions
  • lowering unrealistic expectations 
  • focusing on things you can control 

Teenage Stress Factors

  • getting pressure to do drugs 
  • wanting to fit it 
  • family and peer conflicts 
  • taking to many activities at a time
  • adaption to bodily changes 

Signs of Depression

  • You sleep too much or not enough
  • Anything and everything makes you cry 
  • You feel helpless and hopeless 
  • You constantly feel irritable, sad, or angry 
  • You feel bad about yourself 

Suicide
Warning Signs: increased alcohol/drug abuse, unexpected rage or anger, dramatic mood changes. If you think someone is suicidal you should address them by asking, "Do you ever feel so badly that you think of suicide?," "Do you have a plan?," " Do you have access to what you would use?."

Coping Strategies
Go see a movie, exercise, go shopping, listen to music, take a nap, dance, bake cookies, go to a friend's house, let yourself cry, learn a new language, and many more

Verbal/Nonverbal Communication
Verbal uses words and spoken or written.
Nonverbal uses factors other than words, body language, eye contact, tone, and facial expressions.

Constructive/ Destructive Communication
Destructive consist on blaming, interrupting, endless fighting, need to be right, and character assassination.
Constructive consists on "I" messages, clarity, timing, asking questions, respect and consideration and reflective listening.

Gossip and Rumors
A rumor is usually something that is untrue or something that is said by a person that heard wrong.
Gossip involves a juicy detail of some sort, they are usually hurtful. the information is most likely to be shocking and a secret that was told to someone and they are telling someone.

Purposes of Dating
Socialization: to develop appropriate social skills
Recreation: to try new and different activities, also to have fun and enjoy the companionship of others
Mate Selection: to see others in many different settings

Positive/Negative Dating Characteristics
Positive: be yourself, show respect for the other person, and stay attentive to your date.
Negative: pointing out faults, dominating the topic, pretending to know everything, and speaking freely of past relationship

Reflection
My least favorite lesson that I learned about was the abuse unit and dating lesson because I didn't like hearing people stories on being hurt while in a relationship. My favorite lesson kind of the depression lesson cause now I know what to do if my friend was is depressed and can be their to confront them if they need it.
