FINE ARTS FRIDAY

MY ART PIECES!

Halloween Gourd Painting!

This is my cat - inspired, painted gourd for Halloween! I feel this expresses me because I like interpreting art into animals. What I think is good about the painting is how I turned the stem of the gourd into a tail for the cat which I am very proud of. I used pink tempura paint for most of the spots, the nose, and the tail on the gourd. I thought about doing a cat painted gourd because cats are a symbol of Halloween. So, this is my Halloween Cat gourd!!

CANADA WAR ART

This is my War Art piece for the Remembrance Day Assembly. I made this gallery drawing from the Canada War Art Museum with charcoal. I loved using charcoal pencils especially for this piece because it showed the effect of the wind trails behind the planes. Using charcoal also allowed me to shade in the clouds. The colours in this drawing are very simple, blue is used for the sky and ocean and red and blue patterns are put onto the planes. That is the description of my Canadian War Gallery Drawing.

Keith Haring Graphic Art

I did this drawing in the style of Keith Haring. Keith Haring does all his pieces in a form of art that is colourful, bright and simple. That is also a reason why I used bright, bold colours for this art piece. If I was able to do-over this piece, I would probably make the ground a bit lower because it would look more like a real Keith Haring styled art piece. What I like best about this drawing is how the figures form a heart with their hands. Haring usually made the figures in his art bend and twist all over. I really enjoyed doing this Keith Haring art piece!

CYNTHIA CRAIG

This is my piece based on Cynthia Greig's artwork, 2D sculptures. I drew the picture and redrew it with charcoal. This is what makes it look more real and bright. I like this art piece a lot because it is a different way of drawing the things Cynthia Grieg does, for example flowers, candles, fruit bowls and more. I felt very proud of this piece while making it because it is one of the most realistic looking drawings I had ever made. So, I loved making an art piece in the style of Cynthia Grieg.

VAN GOGH STARRY NIGHT INTERPRETATION

Here is an interpretation of Starry Night, a painting by Van Gogh. I painted the sky with watercolour and did the rest with pencil crayons. The reason I did only the sky with watercolour paint is because it makes it look more real and similar to the actual painting, and it also stands out the most. I drew in the scene of Antarctica to make the interpretation of the real picture. I tried to use the swirling designs Van Gogh used in his artwork by adding the yellow, black, light blue, and dark blue patterns to make it look more like the actual stars and sky. I mostly liked being able to mix penguins (my favourite animal) with a famous painting to make it my own. :)

ZENTANGLE

ZENTANGLE
This is my Zentangle Art piece. It's a Caribou of some sort. I coloured each flower with fine line markers because the colours are really bright. I spent time randomly colouring each flower making it look more like a zentangle which is what I like most about this piece. This piece actually WAS a do-over. The first zentangle I did was a rabbit picture which I did with pencil crayons. But I re-did this art project because using pencil crayons didn't let the picture pop out as much. So I tried again with markers since it works more smoothly and brightly. I enjoyed making this zentangle art piece.

CALLIGRAPHY XMAS CARD

CALLIGRAPHY
This is my Calligraphy Christmas Card Project. The hardest part of doing this piece was the lettering. The space had to be planned out right so it would look even. I used calligraphy pens for the lettering and added a Christmas light pattern around the border for some colour. I felt a little challenged doing this art piece because I have never done calligraphy before and it was hard to get the letters right. But, I did like how the letters looked in the end. I feel like I did well on this Calligraphy art project.

MC ESCHER "WATERFALL VARIATION

MC ESCHER WATERFALL VARIATION:
We did a lesson in class on MC Escher tessellations in class. I was inspired, not by the tessellations, but by his illusions like his art piece called "Waterfall" I decided to do a piece like that. What I love most about this piece is how I was able to create the kind of path illusion that MC Escher does. I used a rough copy for this piece first because I needed to first plan out the directions of the path to make the illusion work. When people see this art piece I want them to be surprised by how the path works and how it is physically impossible for it to be built. I am happy to have made something based on MC Escher's work.

ZENTANGLES LETTER

ZENTANGLE LETTER
Here is my zentangled letter P (for penguin). I started out the piece with pencil. Then, I outlined the lines with black and used different shades of pink for each zentangle pattern. If I had to do this piece over, I would make the lines less straight and more curved. I feel like I didn't draw the lines in the right places. This lettering was made the way I usually do it. I feel like I should have changed the font because it looks too simple. Overall, I think this piece looks like a pretty good zentangle.

GRAPH ART

GRAPH ART
This is the graph art piece I made. I outlined some lines with marker and used pencil crayons for the rest of the colouring. If I had to do-over this piece I would plan a rough copy first so it looks more complex. What I think is good about this piece is how all the colours go together really well. The design on playing cards, spades, clovers, hearts and diamonds, inspired me to make the piece in the way I did. So I arranged them on the art piece and drew it in black red and gold, which is very similar to how playing cards look. I feel like I did this art project really well.

ONE POINT PERSPECTIVE

I feel really good about this one-point-perspective piece I made. I was inspired by some examples of this project to make a bedroom. More specifically, my dream room, which is what I liked best about this piece. I think I did well on this piece because of the straight lines working out well. I used a LOT of different colours for this piece which were intended to look like a room would (eg. Brown carpets and desk, pink bedsheets)
I used a rough copy for this project because it helped me plan out the space and where each object would go. This was a really fun art project.

PHOTOGRAPHY

PHOTOGRAPHY
This is a photo I took from the back school field. I think I took this picture pretty well because I had the tree and horizon line on a power line on the grid while taking the photo. The big tree is the main part of this picture. I thought it was kind of hard to get a good picture outside that could be placed right on the lines but I think my photo turned out good. I was inspired to make the picture the way I did because I thought the big trees outside stood out enough to make a good picture. I feel like I did well at this photography project.

THIS IS NOT A BOX IT'S A HOUSE

THIS IS NOT A BOX
This is not a box, it's a house. I was inspired to make the square into a house because houses are where I mostly and always see squares and rectangles everyday. I feel like I did well with this piece because it took me a while to think of square objects not included in the actual book. So, I feel like it was a good idea to make it into a house since squares appear so commonly in them.

MONET: WATERLILES

This is my painting of Monet's waterlilies. I used watercolour to make this painting because It would be nice to paint the water scene with. It was very useful to paint with for this piece because it helped it look more like the real waterlily paintings. I felt good doing this piece because i think it turned out really well since I haven't done many pieces with paint yet. I made it this way because I thought it should look blurred instead of really detailed like most of the Monet paintings.

MATISSE CUTOUT

MATISSE CUTOUT
Here is my version of a Matisse cutout. I used the bright colours of construction paper on black paper so that the colours seemed more visible. I also made the picture in a very abstract way trying to make each piece random. It was fun getting to use construction paper and scissors for this piece because it's something I haven't done in a while and it was a bit easier to finish. I think I did very well on this piece because it looks a lot like Matisse's work does and I love how to colours look on the black background. I think doing this cutout art piece was a fun project.

ELECTRONIC ART

ELECTRONIC ART
I made this with the app: Sketchbook Express. To make this drawing I used a feature that allows you to draw symmetrically. Basically, if you draw something on one side it appears the same on the other. That's how I made the wings really complex. I think this feature is helpful to create kaleidoscope drawings and anything you want to be symmetrical. When I made this piece (which I attempted 3 times) I didn't plan ahead what I wanted it to be. I tried to draw the wings randomly until I thought they looked right. Overall, I feel like I did well on my electronic art piece.

DUST IN THE WIND

DUST IN THE WIND
This is a Dust in the Wind chalk piece done by me, Jessica, and Kailey. We planned ahead how we wanted it to look, and that helped a lot on making our design look better. We wanted to make a piece that looked very intricate so that's what people to think they look at our artwork. I think doing a Dust in the Wind piece is a very smart idea because of how you make something that's supposed to wash away and stay temporarily. That's why I enjoyed doing this project.

MY PRIMITIVISM

GRANDMA MOSES PRIMITIVISM
Here is a drawing I made in the style of Grandma Moses' work, or Primitivism. I drew a scene similar to the ones I see when my family drives to the Pitt River Dikes. I think I did pretty well on this piece. I like how the overall scene turned out realistic but still child-like. I wanted to use pencil crayons instead of paint for this piece because I feel like I draw better and get more detail in using pencil crayons. I think I did well on this primitivism drawing.
