Always store firearms unloaded with the safety on.

Cabinets.

  • A great way to store firearms are in gun cabinets. It's:
  • safe
  • affordable
  • you can still see the guns
  • most require a key or can be secured by an exterior lock.

Safes

  • Most safes come in two forms: money safes and fire safes.
  • Most are locked by combination, key, or keypad.
  • Fire safes protect firearms from most natural disasters.
  • Money safes are more protective against theft.
  • This is the most secure and safe way to store a firearm

Hard Cases

  • Can come with locks.
  • Most can fit an exterior lock.
  • Protects firearms from being damaged.
  • Can be used as a safe/secure form of transporting a firearm.

Safety while in use/out of use

While shooting

  • Always treat a gun as if it were loaded
  • Never touch the trigger until you are about to shoot
  • Keep the safety on
  • Don't point a gun at people or play with the gun even if it's unloaded
  • Don't fire if you don't know where other people are or if people are in front of you.
  • Unload it before storage.
  • Always point it in a safe direction when reloading.

When not in use

  • ALWAYS treat it as if it's loaded: no horseplay
  • Slap a trigger lock on it
  • Store it in a safe place
  • keep it out of reach of children
