THE FIRST REVOLUTION

  • In February 1917 Russia lost faith in leader Nicholas II
  • He was removed and replaced by a provisional government
  • February 1917 the revolution started
  • Russian economy remained defective
  • It was a period of rioting and strikes

FIRST REVOLUTION 2

  • The Russian people overthrew the monarchy
  • Replaced with temporary government with free elections
  • Russias change to democratic form meant that Wilson could
  • claim the Allies were fighting a war of democracy against autocracy

FIRST REVOLUTION

  • Members of the imperial parliament or Duma assumed control
  • of the country, forming the Russian Provisional Government

NICHOLAS II

  • The emperor who led Russia in the years leading up to the revolution
  • Last Tzar of Russia
  • He personally witnessed terrorist assassinat of his grandfather
  • He became emperor in 1894
  • As he grew weaker Valdemar Lenin became most powerful figure in Russia

RUSSIAN WITHDRAWAL

  • November 1917 the Bolsheviks, group of communist, overthrew
  • the democratic government established in March 1917
  • Vladimir Lenin the leader wanted to end Russian particpation in the war
  • so they can focus on energies and resources and setting up a new communist
  • state. They left the war in December, in March he signed the treat of Brest litovek

BOLSHEVIK REVOLUTION

  • The Bolshevik party was led by Vladimir Lenin overthrew the
  • Provisional Government
  • The Bolshevik appointed themselves as leaders of various governments,
  • Ministries and seized control of the countryside

VLADIMIR LENIN

  • Perhaps Seven Powers Gave Lenin An Opportunity
  • He was born April 22 1870
  • Lenin suffered a stroke in May 1922
  • Then died a year later from another stroke
