Fish Consumption

  • People aren't aware what types of fish are safe to eat
  • Mercury in fish is poisonous and can kill
  • PCB in fish is also deadly
  • PFOS is a man made chemical that accumulates in fish
Mercury is dangerous because it is a toxic metal that impacts the nervous system, especially in children

PCB is builds up in fish fat and islinked to problems in infant development and adult immune function

PFOS is a part of a man made chemical that accumulates in fish, persist in the enviorment and pose a threat to human health.

Solutions

  • Educate people on fish saftey
  • Cook/Clean fish to ride of PCB
  • Eat smaller/ less fatty fish
  • Mercury Reduction plan
2. While this does not help get ride of Mercury or PCB's, which is in the fish' flesh, it does help remove PFOS'

3. PCB's build up in fish fat

4. The Minnesota Pollution control agency approved a statewide Mercury Reduction Plan, cutting mercury air emissions by 76%, by 2025

My River

  • Make fliers to put on doors
  • Pick up trash by creek
  • Talk to people I know who fish
Talk to them about which fish they can eat and how they know that. How to keep from polluting (from boats, lines ect.)

Call to action

  • Take care of your trash
  • Use mulch in your garden
  • Collect rain water to use in your garden
  • Eat organic foods
  • Don't poop in lakes or rivers
2. This helps absorbs the excess water and diminishes runoff
3. This diminishes the amount of harmful pesticides used
5. Dig a hole 100 big steps away to poop in, then cover it up
