FIVE PILLARS OF ISLAM

FAITH

• There is no god worthy of worship except God & Muhammad

PRAYER

• Called Salat
• obligatory prayers which are performed five times a day
• are said in Arabic

CHARITY

• principle of Islam is that all things belong to God
• Called Zakat
• payment each year of two and a half percent of one's capital

FASTING

• abstaining from food, drink, and sexual relations
• Children begin to fast from puberty
• If you miss a day you must make it up later on

PILGRIMAGE

• Called the Hajj
• about two million people go to Makkah each year
• Pilgrims wear special clothes so that all stand equal before God.
