  • Muslim mean submission (to God)
  • First thing heard
  • Last thing heard

SALAT

FIVE DAILY PRAYERS

  • Called to prayer by a muezzin and wash themselves before prayer.
  • They pray in mosques, while the women and men are separated.
  • They have 3 prayer positions.
  • Pray facing the direction of the Ka’ba
  • They pray on rugs

ZAKAT

CHARITY/ALMSGIVING

ZAKAT

  • 2.5 to 20% of your current income.
  • Goes to those who Allah mentioned in the Qu’ran.
  • Can be payed in other resources.
  • Only need to be payed by those who pass the nisab
  • Some are excepted

SAWM

FASTING DURING THE MONTH OF RAMADAN

  • No actions with bad intentions
  • From sunrise to sunset
  • Time for reflection and good deeds
  • There are some exceptions but there is also a price for not fasting.
  • People who are excused are the sick, elderly, and children

HAJJ

PILGRIMAGE TO MECCA

  • People take many different paths to Mecca and other historical sights.
  • Men wear a 2 piece garment call the ihram
  • You must go at least once in your life.
  • Upon arrival, you walk seven times clockwise around the Ka’ba
  • Along the way many stone a pillar symbolizing the devil.
