WHAT IS FLOTATION?

  • A process of separating mixtures by their density
  • A higher density sinks, while the lower density rises to the top
  • This separates the compounds from each other

USE IN REAL WORLD

  • Oil and water- does not mix, oil floats to the top
  • Froth Flotation- Air bubbles selectively adhere to specific mineral surfaces, floating to the top
  • Copper sulfide minerals float in water
