Through out this experiment, there have been many changes and results that surprised me. On day one, my mom got a bunch of twelve roses. She gave me four and put the rest in a huge vase. On day three, the roses my mom bought were dead! Another huge surprise came on day six and seven. On day six, the flowers were very still very white, but on day seven there was a huge change in the coloration. I think this happened because I refilled the vases everyday and put the roses in an area with a great amount of sunlight. A big challenge in this experiment was the time I picked to clean vases and take pictures of the roses. I unfortunately picked four p.m. which is the time I leave for soccer. So, I had to get ready quickly so I had time to clean and take pictures.
The hypothesis was if a vase is half filled with Sprite and half with water, then the flower will last longer because the Sprite will kill the germs in the water. The results of the experiment does support the hypothesis, because the flower in the experimental group did not brown as much as the control group, and the stem did not bend and die. The control group had much more browning going on in the bloom and the stem showed more signs of death. However both groups did very well looking lively the whole week due to daily cleaning. If this experiment was repeated, think about a good time to clean vases and take photos, and keep the flower in the same place after cleaning.
