QUESTION

  • Will adding Gatorade to cut flowers not make them wilt as fast?

HYPOTHESIS

  • If Gatorade is added to fresh cut flowers, then they will last longer because the sugar from the Gatorade will go to the flowers.

MATERIALS:

  • 6 flowers
  • Gatorade
  • Two cups
  • Water
  • iPad
  • Scissors
  • Ruler

PROCEDURE

  • Get some flowers, they must be the same kind.
  • Make two groups (control and experimental).
  • Each group must have three flowers.
  • Cut each flower, and they all should be about the same height (measure with ruler).
  • Add the same amount of liquid into each cup.
  • 473.176ml of water into the controlled group cup and 236.588ml of water and 236.588ml of Gatorade into the experimental group cup.
  • Add flowers to the cups with the liquid in them.

PROCEDURE

  • The next day start taking photos and initial observations.
  • Gather data using quantitative and qualitative data like the number of petals fallen and how strong is the smell.
  • Gather data and photos everyday around 7:00p.m. for 7 days.
  • Write down any differences or changes the flowers may show or contain.

VARIABLES/CONTROLS

  • Independent variable: the Gatorade put into the water.
  • Dependent variable: how long it takes for the flowers to wilt.
  • Control group: this is the group of flowers that just has regular water in the cup.
  • Experimental group: this is the group of flowers that has the Gatorade added to the water.
