it is important for students to have the ability to read fluently because it crates a bridge between word recognition and comprehension. Since fluent readers do not need the time to recognize the word, they can take their time trying to understand the word and what they are reading. The fluent students are able to make connections between the text and their own background knowledge.
The more fluent readers focus their attention on making connections through the ideas in the text and between the ideas and their own background knowledge. they are able to spend more time on comprehension.
The less fluent readers focus more on decoding words and sounding them out. Therefore, they have little to no time to spend on comprehension.
fluency develops and becomes better over time and practice. at the beginning stages of a students reading they were be slower but if they keep up with it, it will gradually increase. Students who read and reread passages, books, and articles will have a greater success in become a fluent reader.
