Fluoride deficiency is a disorder that can cause tooth decay and lead to osteoporosis

A person who has fluoride deficiency may have weak or badly formed teeth / increase in tooth cavities, brittle or weak bones, and elderly patients may have an increase in fractured hips

Anyone can be at risk for of fluoride deficiency

Excess fluorine which can cause:

  • abnormal (soapy or salty) taste
  • unusual increase in saliva or drooling
  • rashes
  • weakness

May lower risk of osteoporosis in menopausal women

Strengthens bones and helps prevent bone fractures

About 95% is found in teeth and bones as calcium fluoride or CaF2
