Why footbinding

• women did this to show high social class and help the rise to higher class

Who would do this?

• any young girls who wanted to be viewed as in a high social class
• this became illegal in 1912 but people still did it in secrete

Then VS Now

• women today- starve themselves and get plastic surgery to fit into societies thought of pretty and so men will pay attention
• foot-binding was so that men would want to marry you and so you would be viewed in a higher social class
