PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Pressure in Fluids

  • Fluid pressure depends on depth
  • The greater the depth the greater the pressure
  • Fluids are liquids and gasses, they take the shape of their containers and will flow
  • Fluids flow from high pressure to low pressure areas
  • P=F/A or pressure equals force over area

Density and Buoyancy

  • Density it the ratio of mass to volume in a given substance
  • Substances sink if the are more dense than the liquid they are in OR if it has a greater weight than the bouyant force
  • floating: an object will float if it is less dense than the fluid it's in OR is equal to the bouyant force

Archimedes' Principle

  • Displace- to take the place of
  • Principle: buoyant forces on an object in a fluid is an upward force equal ti the weight of the fluid it displaces
