PRESENTATION OUTLINE

PRESSURE IN FLUIDS

  • Fluid pressure depends on depth
  • Greater the depth, the greater the pressure
  • Fluids include liquids and gases
  • They take the shape of their containers and will flow
  • Fluids flow from high pressure to low pressure ares
  • Pressure = force/area

DENSITY AND BUOYANCY

  • Density is the ratio of mass to volume in a given substance
  • D=M/V
  • Sinking: an object will sink if it is more dense than the fluid that it is in or if it has greater weight than the buoyant force
  • Floating: an object is will float if it is less dense than the fluid that it's in or equal to the buoyant force

ARCHIMEDES PRINCIPLE

  • Displace is to take place of
  • Principle: buoyant force on an object in a fluid is an upward force equal to the weight of fluid it displaces
