OBJECTIVE

  • By the end of this lesson, you will know the different types of forces and who helped give us new information about forces.

During this lesson, I will show a video, give a three question quiz, and define forces in a detailed explanation.

FORCES

  • Galileo discovered objects change motion with a push or pull.
  • Isaac Newton developed mathematical equations describing how forces affect motion.
  • Newtons most important contribution was his description of gravitational force, which explains the the motion of the moon and planets.
  • Archimedes, a Greek astronomer, discovered the original idea of force around 300 B.C.
  • Force is usually described by being a push or pull system, which is accurate.

Strong nuclear force-
holds the protons and neutrons together in an atomic model

Electromagnetic forces-
the static (unmoving) and the moving electrical charges
Ex. Lightning

Weak nuclear force-
holds the elementary particles of matter together

Gravitational force-
this force is used in all types of forces
Ex. Keeping us on the ground

Contact forces-
caused by the attraction or repulsion of atom sized particles
Ex. Kicking a soccer ball

Balanced forces-
forces whose pushes and pulls cancel each other out

External force-
a force that acts on a system from outsides the system's boundary

QOTD

  • What are some real life examples of force?

AOTD

  • Gravity, lightning, dribbling a basketball

VIDEOS

  • Force: Definition and Types
  • What is a Force

QUIZ

  • Who realized objects only change motion when a push or pull occurs to the object?
  • What are the two types of forces?
  • Who developed mathematical equations describing how forces affect motion?

BIBLICAL INTEGRATION

  • Ezekiel 1:12, "And each went straight forward; wherever the spirit was about to go, they would go, without turning as they went."
  • This relates to force because it shows how you are supposed to push through all the sin and keep your eyes on God.
