IDENTIFYING RACE OF AN INDIVIDUAL BASED ON HAIR CHARACTERISTICS

Hair is class evidence. Physical characteristics of a hair can give clues to the broad racial background.
*Negroid Hair has uneven pigment. They are also flat and oval in cross section
*Mongoloid Hair is straight, almost circular in cross section

There are six types of hairs on the human body

• Head hair
• Eyebrow hair
• Eyelash hair
• Underarm hair
• Auxiliary or body hair
• Pubic hair

IDENTIFYING THE DIFFERENT HAIRS AND THEIR CHARACTERISTIC

Head hair is circular or elliptical in cross section. Eyebrow and eyelash hairs are also circular but can often have tapering ends.Beard hairs are thick and triangular. Depending on whether the body are is shaved, body hairs can be oval or triangular just like pubic hairs.
