PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Forgiveness &compassion

In Frankestein

Most of the characters in Frankenstein seem to lack compassion entirely. The monster alone shows compassion and kindness; attributes that are soon ruined by the world around him. Frankenstein further questions just how goodness is judged. We are left unable to judge which characters are good and which are evil. We are left unsure of whom to forgive, who deserves our compassion.

Examples:
The monster struggles with his identity. He believes that people should treat him with respect despite his appearance. This faulty assumption leads him to disappointment and anger.
(Chapter 12, page 95)

The monster saves a little girl showing compassion. But humans did not take this as a compassionate act rather they attacked him for it. The world is indifferent at best, and hateful and mistrusting at worst.

The man in the photo wrestled a shark away from children and was fired for missing work, this shows a lack of compassion for this man same as the lack shown form the creature.

Victor finally agreed to create a female companion for the monster because he believed that it's the least he could do for his creation after bringing him into a judgmental world.
