landslides

  • Occurs when rock & soil slide down quickly
  • Some contain huge masses of rock
  • Many only contain a small amount of rock
  • Some occur where highways were cut through hills

Mudflows

  • Its the rapid downhill movement of a mixture
  • The mixture is made of water, rock, & soil
  • Highest amount of water in mudflows is 60%
  • They occur after heavy rains

SLUMPS

  • A mass of rock and soil suddenly slips down a slope
  • Material in a slump moves down in a large mass
  • Often occurs when water soaks the bottom of soil

CREEP

  • Very slow downhill movement of rock & soil
  • Can occur on gentle slopes
  • Often results from freezing & thawing
  • Creep is so slow you can barely notice it
