REDUCING FRACTIONS

  • First you divide the denominator by at least two
  • Then you do the same thing to the numerator
  • To simplify is to reduce until you can't anymore

EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS

  • To find if a fraction is equivalent you need to simplify.
  • Or use a picture example.
  • You might see
  • Mark witch one is bigger or smaller or even

CONVERTING FRACTION AND MIXED NUMNERS

  • (Mixed to improper)First you multiply the denominator and the whole number then you
  • Add that number to the numerator and that's the new numerator the denominator stays
  • The same
  • (Improper to mixed)First you divide the numerator by the denominator. In your answer is
  • The whole number stays the same and the decimal is the fraction

ADDING/ SUBTRACTING FRACTIONS AND MIXED NUMBERS

  • First you find the common denominator then what you do to the bottom you do to the top so now multiply
  • By the same number you did so to the bottom. Then you add,the denominator
  • Stays the same. Now how to borrow first you would take the whole number and take one from
  • It, then you would take that one and the fraction and make it an improper fraction lastly you would then take
  • The improper fractions and add/ subtract to get you answer

MULTIPLYING FRACTIONS AND MIXED NUMBERS

  • First you would multiply the top and that would be the numerator
  • Then you would multiply the bottom and that would be the denominator
  • Then you would have you answer

DIVIDING FRACTIONS AND MIXED NUMBERS

  • First you would flip the fractions closest to the equal sign
  • The numerator would become the denominator and the denominator would become the numerator
  • Then the division sign would become the multiplication sign and you would multiply.
  • That's how you divide fractions

CONVERTING FRACTIONS AND DECIMALS

  • To convert a fraction to a decimal you simply divide the numerator from the denominator
  • Now the decimal is the fraction.

GLOSSARY

  • DIFFRENCE: Find the difference of/between 10 and 7. It's generally taken as
  • 10-7= 3. it sometimes can also mean 7 - 10 = -3 unless specified.
  • DIVIDEND: means a number to be divided by another number
  • DIVISOR: means a number by which another number is to be divided. a number that divides into another
  • Without a remainder

GLOSSARY

  • EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS: they are they same portion of an amount of Something
  • FACTOR: a number or quantity that when multiplied with another produces a given number or expression.
  • IMPROPER FRACTIONS: a fraction in which the numerator is greater than the denominator, such as 5/4.
  • PRODUCT: a quantity obtained by multiplying quantities together, or from an analogous algebraic operation.
  • QUOTIENT: a result obtained by dividing one quantity by another.
