  • Petrarch wrote poems
  • One of the earliest humanists of the renaissance
  • First to characterize the Middle Ages as a period of darkness

MAJOR POEMS

  • Petrarch was extremely proud of his composition Africa, which was written in Latin. It was not published until 3 decades after his death. He dedicated it to Robert Naples, King of Sicily.
  • The poem was about the Second Punic war.
  • Petrarch explained in the poem human achievements, and he expressed human nature.

WHY THE ARTIFACT REPRESENTED HUMANISM

  • The poem was about the second Punic war, and it explained the battles they fought. Instead of basing his poem off of religion, he wrote about Human achievement. He talked about people battering for there lives, and the lives of others. It represents humanism because Petrarch focused on the life of people, not just religion.
