CHILDHOOD AND ADOLESCENCE

• Schubert wrote his first masterpiece at age 17. He wrote the Goethe’s "Gretchen am Spinnrade" (Gretchen at the Spinning Wheel)
• In 1815, Schubert wrote over 20,000 bars of music, along with a symphony.
• At age 19, Schubert got a degree in law but later decided against it and pursued on with his dream of composing.

• At age 19, Franz Schubert married a women named Elizabeth, and together they had five children- they were married for a few years until she died (no sources explained how). Then he married another woman who bore him five more children.

• Lived in the 19th century
• Most famous work was the song"Ellens dritter Gesang" (Ave Maria)...it was also one of the songs that really made him well-known
