PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The Freedom Riders were civil rights supporters who protested the segregation of buses that was still happening. People of many races participated in these protests.
THE CONGRESS OF RACIAL EQUALITY, ALSO KNOWN AS CORE, ORGANIZED THE FREEDOM RIDES ON MAY 4,1961. ON THESE 'FREEDOM RIDES' PEOPLE OF DIFFERENT RACES WHO DIDN'T AGREE WITH SEGREGATION WOULD SIT TOGETHER IN OTHER PARTS OF THE BUSES.
THE FREEDOM RIDES WOULD START IN NORTHERN STATES THAT DIDN'T APPROVE OF SEGREGATION AND GO TO THE SOUTHERN STATES.
AT THE BEGINNING, THE LOCAL AND STATE AUTHORITY IGNORED THE PROTESTS, BUT AS THE FREEDOM RIDES CONTINUED OCCURRING, POLICE AND ANGRY SEGREGATIONISTS IN THE SOUTH BEGAN MEETING THE PROTESTORS WITH RESISTANCE.
MANY OF THE RIDERS WERE INJURED DUE TO THE SEGREGATIONISTS, PEOPLE WHO SUPPORTED SEGREGATION, THROWING ROCKS AT THEM.
QUITE A FEW RIDERS WERE EVEN ARRESTED AND PUT IN JAIL.
A BUS WAS ATTACKED AND BURNED AS FREEDOM RIDERS
