Freedom Walkers

Russell Freedman

Rosa Parks: What I learned about Rosa Parks Is that she started something special and she didn't even know it. On December 1, 1955 Parks finished work and got on her usual bus. More whites boarded the bus, soon there were so many that some whites didn't have a seat. The bus driver noticed and ordered Rosa to get up, but she refused, she was sick of giving into white. She was then arrested, but her arrestment helped start the bus boycott.

Jo Ann Robinson: While reading freedom walkers I learned about Jo Ann Robinson. Robinson's story happened in 1949, when she boarded a Montgomery City Lines bus. She got on the bus and noticed that it was almost empty, Robinson took the fifth row, and began to dream about her upcoming vacation. Not much later she was being scolded at by the driver. Jo Ann made a mistake she sat in the white reserved section. She then stumbled of the bus in tears.

Claudette Colvin: What I have learned about Claudette Colvin is that she was sick of whites pushing her around. On March 2, 1955 she boarded a bus coming home from school. She found a seat behind the white reserved section, soon the the bus was packed with some whites standing. The bus driver stopped the bus and ordered blacks to give up their seat, Colvin did not. The bus driver called the police, when the police got there the insisted that Claudette get up she still refused. She was then arrested

Martin Luther King Jr: Martin Luther King Jr. the leader of the bus boycott and a lot of other nonviolent protests. On December 5, 1955 the first day of the bus boycott began. The boycott lasted 381 days, and was a complete success.

Klu Klux Klan: This organization was a group completely against black equality. The klan would scare blacks by driving around a black neighborhood with a hanging device out the window. They also did stuff like burn crosses in blacks' yards.
