BACKGROUND

• Was also called the revolution of 1789
• Was the decline of monarchies and churches
• And the rise of democracy and nationalism

CAUSES

• Absolute monarchy, corrupt leadership
• Unfair land distribution, unfair tax code
• Rigid Social class structure
• Failure of king Louis XVI to accept reforms
• Storming of the Bastille

CHANGE

• Unified France and enhanced the power of the national state
• Tore down the ancient structure of Europe
• It brought forward democratic and nationalistic ideas
