Intimacy -
sexual immorality - pornography 6 out of 10 men in church have seen porn in the last 7 days either by accident or on purpose
impurity - lack of ethical and moral integrity that usually relates to leaving some kind of mark behind staining or bruising that symbolizes ceremonial impurity that needs cleansing by the blood of Jesus
lustful pleasures - the impurity that now has been done in public and is no longer concealed, and is viewed as socially unacceptable
The same three words occur together in a different order, 2 Cor. 12:21. The order here is perhaps the more natural: πορνεία a special form of impurity; ἀκαθαρσία uncleanness in whatever guise, ἀσέλγεια an open reckless contempt of propriety. A man may be ἀκάθαρτος and hide his sin; he does not become ἀσελγής until he shocks public decency.”
Worship -
- idols - replacing God with anything else to worship, statues, idols of the heart or head
- idolatry” This refers to the worship of anything in place of God (cf. 1 Cor. 10:14; Eph. 5:5; Col. 3:5; 1 Pet. 4:3). It especially related to acts of worship to statues or inanimate objects.
sorcery - word we get pharmacy from, drug induced trances or the appearance of such that were used in pagan temple worship
Loving one another
- hostility - to have distance between you and another due to ill will
quarreling - strife causing disagreements
jealousy - zealous desire for something that someone else has and you do not, you not having it being the issue
anger - volcanic eruption of emotion
selfish ambition - the drive for success that leads one to use and abuse people, to do whatever it takes to win....whether it is honest or not
dissension - discord or disagreement that leads to splitting people apart
division - when the split gets to a group level, instead of an individual or small group
envy - spiteful resentment directed at someone's achievement or possession with the idea of taking it away from them
Boundaries - or lack of them
drunkenness - to be really intoxicated, and losing one's inhibitions or normal self control as a result
Drunkenness (μεθαι [methai], old word and plural, drunken excesses, in N. T. only here and Luke 21:34; Rom. 13:13), revellings (κωμοι [kōmoi], old word also for drinking parties like those in honour of Bacchus, in N. T. only here and Rom. 13:13; 1 Peter 4:3). And such like (και τα ὁμοια τουτοις [kai ta homoia toutois]). And the things like these (associative instrumental τουτοις [toutois] after ὁμοια [homoia], like). It is not meant to be exhaustive, but it is representative.
wild parties - which is where you end up when your appetites are aloud to go unchecked.
