DESCRIPTION

  • Beets grow in the soil as a root. Its the taproot portion of the beet plant.
  • Beets are native to the Mediterranean.
  • The best time to get beets when they're in season is during November.
  • The sugar beet belongs to the Chenopodiaceae family.

PREPARING

  • You will want firm beets, older ones get spongy.
  • The first step would be to cut the leaves off an inch above the beet.
  • Boil them in water for about 15-30min and then rinse them
  • Peel off the skin after boiling and cut off the leaf stems and slice them up.
  • Add seasoning and butter to finish off. You can also serve the leaves.

  • Beets are a good source of Vitamin C, iron, and magnesium.
